It’s that time of the year! Networks start to cast and shoot pilots, and re-evaluate their current schedules to see what will stick around for next season, and which shows will bite the dust in May.
CBS is showing its strength as a network, by announcing that the vast majority of its current lineup will be returning next season. The shows that have been picked up, which include nine dramas, four comedies, and three reality shows, are collectively some of TV’s top shows.
Nine dramas have officially been renewed for the 2012-2013 season. These drama are Blue Bloods, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, Person on Interest – which is picking up steam on Thursdays – Hawaii 5-0, Criminal Minds, CSI, The Mentalist, and the critically acclaimed and award-winning The Good Wife.
CBS’ entire Monday night comedy lineup has been picked up for next season, including freshman comedy 2 Broke Girls, and Mike & Molly. How I Met Your Mother is returning next season thanks to its previously announced multi-year pickup, and CBS is still in talks with Warner Brothers Television to bring Two and a Half Men back for its tenth season.
Two and a Half Men is expected to return for its tenth season, even though Ashton Kutcher hasn’t signed on for another season yet (he’s just holding out for more money). Men co-creator and executive producer Chuck Lorre announced at PaleyFest on Monday that the long running sitcom will only return next season if Kutcher is on board, so the ball is in his court.
The Big Bang Theory is without a doubt returning next season to CBS. Even though the show has already been picked up for next season in a multi-year contract like How I Met Your Mother, Big Bang has had a stellar season so far in the ratings, mainly because it is the first scripted show ever to beat Fox’s American Idol in both total viewers and in the coveted 18-49 demo.
Reality shows The Amazing Race, Undercover Boss, and Survivor will also be returning to the schedule next season.
In the slew of announcements this afternoon, there were no mentions if veteran series Rules of Engagement, CSI: Miami, or CSI: NY will be returning next season.
It’s safe to say that freshman series Rob, A Gifted Man, and Unforgettable will not be returning to the schedule next season.

What’s up with csi Miami? No renewal?
No yet. CSI: Miami and CSI: NY haven’t been renewed yet because of ratings and spots on the schedule. At least one will be cancelled, I would say out of both, CSI: Miami will be safe
