The Creative Arts Emmy Awards celebrate and honor outstanding achievements in artistic and technical achievements in television. This year’s awards are being distributed this Saturday and Sunday night and I’m going to break down my predictions for for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series.

- Bradley Whitford – The Handmaid’s Tale
Winner – Bradley Whitford, The Handmaid’s Tale
The fact that I’m predicting Bradley Whitford to win for his guest role in The Handmaid’s Tale when the show itself isn’t even eligible this year is ludicrous – but thanks to The Television Academy’s hanging episode rule, The Handmaid’s Tale ended up with a whopping 11 nominations, the second most of any drama series this year.
Whitford is already an Emmy winner for The West Wing (2001) and Transparent (2015), it’s close to a sure thing that Whitford will add another Emmy to his mantle for his role as Commander Joseph Lawrence.
Even those these hanging Handmaid’s episodes aired over a year ago, season 3 just wrapped on Hulu this spring right before Emmy votes started, and Whitford’s character was much more prevalent this since he was upped to series regular for the current season. What works in Bradley’s favor is that the Academy is no stranger in rewarding this show. In the past two seasons Handmaid’s has won 11 Emmys, including 4 acting awards (Elisabeth Moss, Ann Dowd, Samira Wiley, Alexis Bledel).
The Creative Arts Emmys take place Saturday, September 14th and Sunday, September 15th and the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles and air Saturday, September 21st on FXX.
